The KDE® Community is an international technology team dedicated towards creating a free and user-friendly computing experience.

KDE-India is a group of volunteers who are a part of this community, and have been meeting up at various FOSS events in India and abroad. Over the last few years, there has been a substantial increase in contributions to KDE from India to various avenues like coding, localization, marketing, website/infrastructure maintenance etc. There has also been a lot of contributions as a part of programmes like Google Summer of Code and Season of KDE.

We needed a forum to gather as many KDE contributors as possible at one place. So Indian KDE volunteers came together to organize a conference solely dedicated to KDE with an aim to spread KDE far and wide within India and to have new aspiring contributors to KDE. As Qt has been the foundation of KDE’s software since the very beginning, we have the same aspirations for Qt. We also wish to promote Qt and KDE as a platform that is capable of delivering excellence.

conf.kde.in is a platform for Qt and KDE contributors and enthusiasts to meet up, share their knowledge, contribute, learn, play, have fun and create limitless possibilities.

Here are a few things we have in mind for the conference:

Organizing talks and workshops by seasoned Qt and KDE developers
Organizing day long tutorials by experienced Qt and KDE developers
Brainstorming new ideas that could be possible with Qt and KDE code
Hack a lot of Qt and KDE code
Meet new people and share the passion of making awesome software and being a part of a rich community
Have a lot of fun (a key requirement of the event)
We expect students to come in vast numbers and benefit from this conference and take back with them a lot of knowledge and the thrill to be a part of and contribute to one of the largest FOSS projects in the world. We also expect and encourage professionals working with Qt and KDE technologies to take part in this conference and share their knowledge and experience with the community.

conf.kde.in will be held on 9th, 10th, 11th March 2011 followed by two days of code sprint on 12th and 13th March 2011. Welcome and have fun!
